Let’s get acquainted
Good morning! (Or maybe
it’s night already?)
Welcome and feel yourself at home. We are always happy to have guests. In such
weather, it’s so pleasant to sit by the fire place in a nice company. Indeed, our
company is very nice and pleasant, but – it is also true – rather small, as the
number of people who share our secret is not very big. This is one more reason
why we called our magazine Malenkaya Kompaniya. As for the main reason, it is that secret
that has brought us together. Our great secret, just like the great secret of
another small company of friends, is "to have somebody to speak with"
(do you remember a song by Yunna Morits?).
In our case, we want to speak with our own kids in our own language, which is
RUSSIAN.
We are an educational
magazine for Russian-speaking children (and their families) living in the US
and other countries of the world. A magazine that attracts children to reading
in general, and particularly to reading in Russian. A magazine that unites all
generations of a family. A magazine that encourages thinking.
If it is not what you
expected, well, we are not offended. Just close the window.
But if you share our
secret, feel free to join the Malenkaya Kompaniya.
Do you remember your
childhood? Your friends? Your games? Your books? No, not comic strips, but real
thick books that had not only drawings but also text. And in those books there
were fascinating heroes: Nils, Peter Pan, Mio,
Dick Sand, the three musketeers, D’Artagnan, Ivanhoe,
Robin Hood… Those heroes flew high up in the sky, swam across the wide rivers,
climbed up high mountains, fought off their enemies with bows, pistols, and
swords, and sometimes they even perished in that unequal fight. Do you remember
them?
Our magazine is for those parents who still remember and cherish their own
childhood, who believe that a childhood – just as a life itself – is given to a
human being only once and that it’s necessary to live it in such a way that it
would stay with you during all your life and you’ll be able to share it with
your children and grandchildren. It is for these parents and their children
that we have started the magazine Malenkaya
Kompaniya. For people who love reading and
remember notions such as adventure, friendship, loyalty, the word of honor and
who want those notions to stay with their kids.

We are building a House of
Friendship, if you recall it is what Cheburashka and Krokodil Gena were building. The
house will be for you and your children. You want to help? You are welcome.
Only hurry – we know that, unfortunately, childhood passes so quickly.
Some people ask us, why we do the magazine in Russian if it is meant for the
kids living in the United States. Well, for us it’s obvious. Russian is the
language of our own childhood, of the childhood of our parents and
grandparents. It’s that thin cord that joins us together. And it’s we on whom
it depends, for how long more will it connect us. Who knows when it be broken –
or ever the silver cord be loosed,
or the golden bowl be broken,
or the pitcher be broken at the fountain,
or the wheel broken at the cistern.

house is still under construction, so if you find not finished rooms or broken
floor or if you hurt yourself on a nail, let us know. We do need your help. All
suggestions concerning the improvement of our house will be taken into
