Literary Magazine for Russian-speaking children and their parents Malenkaya Kompaniya invites you to become a sponsor for our annual Olympiada of Spoken Russian to benefit Russian-speaking children in NYC.
The primary source of funding for Olympiada is from corporate sponsors, such as your company, and individual families, such as yours. The Olympiada of Spoken Russian receives no governmental funds. Malenkaya Kompaniya is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your contribution is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
This exciting event will be held on April 10, 2010 at Columbia University and on April 11 at Kingsborough Community College. The Awards ceremony for the winners of both events will take place at KCC on May 23, Sunday. It is a great opportunity for our children to demonstrate their knowledge and language skills and to get awards and diplomas that count towards their college admission. Besides, Olympiada encourages their interest in keeping the heritage culture.
As you may be aware, Malenkaya Kompaniya magazine has been published since 2006 to benefit the Russian-speaking families in the US; since 2008 it has a children’s theater studio where kids (3 to 15 years old) from Russian-speaking and mixed families learn the basics of drama, improve their language skills, and create performances shown to public free of charge. Last year Malenkaya Kompaniya, in cooperation with the Slavic Department of the Columbia University and the American Council of Teachers of Russian, organized the First Olympiada of Spoken Russian for heritage speakers in NYC. More than fifty schoolchildren took part and demonstrated deep knowledge and good language skills. The participants were greeted by the Office of the Mayor of NYC and by that of St. Petersburg, Russia. Since the first such event was a success, we have decided to conduct it annually. Moreover, this year we start a pilot program – a mini-olympiada for kids ages 7 -11.
Your sponsorship will help assure the success of Olympiada.
